Saturday March 1st, 2pm: Spring Gardening Series with Mary Anne McGourty: Gardening in the Shade

Mary Anne McGourty and her husband Fred owned Hillside Gardens, a prestigious nursery in Norfolk, CT specializing in uncommon perennials and garden design. Their showcase garden was featured on PBS television's "Victory Garden" and on Home and Garden TV's "Great Gardeners" series. Articles by Mary Anne have appeared in American Horticulturist and several Brooklyn Botanic Garden handbooks. She edited Taylor's Guide to Ground Covers (Houghton, Mifflin). Thursday March 6th, 2pm: Afternoon at the Bijou: Presenting Lilly Mars

Judy Garland is Broadway bound! This 1943 musical combines drama and comedy in telling the story of a small-town girl seeking fame. Saturday March 8th, 2pm: Spring Gardening Series with John Root: Wildflowers of the Northeast

This presentation features close-up images of plants in a range of magnifications as well as photographic portraits. It celebrates the intricacy and enchanting beauty of our native flora. Monday March 10th 7pm: Traveling Memories Book Discussion Series: Discussion of Fried Eggs With Chopsticks by Polly Evans

This book discussion group is moderated by Catherine Barnes Stevenson, professor at the University of Hartford. The discussion series is based on the theme of women traveling. Monday March 10th 7pm: Unique Fundraising Opportunities for Non- Profits: Cruising for Charity with Rose Frett

Rose Frett is owner of Dream Travel and Escapes Travel Agency. Born in Montserrat in the Eastern Caribbean, Ms. Frett has had a life-long passion for travel. Her company has priority status with the major cruise lines, including: Cruise West, Princess, World Leading Cruise Lines and Norwegian. She has worked closely with these major cruise lines to develop programs that enhance fundraising efforts for non profits. During her presentation, Ms. Frett will provide details and information regarding cruise lines and “Cruising for Charity” programs. Wednesday March 12th 7pm: Chefs and Books with Nancy Harmon Jenkins, author of Cucina Del Sole

Hailed as "an anthropologist of the human soul as revealed through food" (amazon.com), Nancy Harmon Jenkins has written frequently about Mediterranean cuisine. She writes for the New York Times and Food & Wine. She works closely with the Culinary Institute of America, leading tours to Italy and Spain for the CIA's Worlds of Flavor program. Ms. Jenkins will talk, sign her books, and serve tasty treats based on recipes from her latest book, Cucina Del Sole. The Chefs and Books series is sponsored by Metro Bis Restaurant. Saturday March 15th, 2pm: Spring Gardening Series with Deborah Kent: Designing with Great Plants for Connecticut

Deborah Kent will present a powerpoint presentation on concepts and selections for garden design. Deborah, a master gardener, recently retired from her position as a reporter for Channel 3 News. Tuesday March 18th, 7pm: Eating Well and Feeling Well -Lecture by Dr. Jonathan Goodman, ND

Dr. Goodman will present a lecture on natural approaches to health and medical concerns. Dr. Goodman received his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine in 1999 from Bastyr University, Kenmore, WA. He is Director of Solutions for Better Health in Bristol, CT and is associated with the University of Bridgeport CNM and Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center/Integrative Medicine Center. Wednesday March 19th, 2pm: Creating Change in Organizations and Communities - Author Talk & Book Signing with Billie Alban

Billie Alban is President and Senior Partner of Alban & Williams, Ltd. Consultants to organization. Ms. Alban is an author, a business leader, and role model for women in business. From 1960 to 1965 she was VP of Transpetrolo Corporation in South America. Since 1965 she has won distinction as a national and international management consultant. Ms. Alban's clients include ITT, General Electric, Kraft General Foods, Bankers Trust, Johnson and Johnson, NASA, Exxon/Mobil, British Airways, Pfizer, and INTEL.

Ms. Alban's latest book The Handbook of Large Group Methods (Jossey Bass) is a must-read for anyone in the fields of community & organization change. The Handbook offers a comprehensive review of cutting-edge large group methods currently being implemented to address challenges in organizations and communities. An evening reception, with hors d'ouvres and drinks, to celebrate our featured artists: Chris O'Herron, Heidi Olson, Kris Dezzani, Debbie Leonard, Jon Art and Carol Lowbeer. Saturday March 29th, 2pm: Guest Speaker Jeremi Suri - Author of Henry Kissinger and the American Century

Jeremi Suri is Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and author of the recently published Henry Kissinger and the American Century. (Harvard University Press, 2007) His articles are published in major newspapers including the San Fransisco Chronicle, The Washington Times, The Wisconsin State Journal and Chosun Ilbo (South Korea). Suri is co-editor of a major book series on "America in the World."

The History News Network has named Suri as one of the nation's "top young historians." He is also one of the Organization of American Historians' "distinguished lecturers." Suri's research and teaching have received numerous prizes, including the Phi Alpha Theta Best First Book Award. Suri's work is re-shaping views of how political power is forged in a globally connected age. He has recently been named as Smithsonian Magazine's "Top Young Innovator in the Arts & Sciences." Featured Artists: This exhibit features the stunning and diverse work of local artists including; Chris O'Herron, John Squire, Debbie Leonard, Heidi Olson, Kris Dezzani, and Carol Lowbeer. A reception for these artists will be held Thursday March 27th at 6:30 pm.

Saturday March. 1st, 1-4pm: Hoppin Gallery Art Reception: The still life colored pencil drawings of Elizabeth A. Auxier will be on display throughout March in the Hoppin Gallery.
