"Ryna"- This Rumanian/French film is about a teenage girl who is being raised as a boy because her father wanted a son. Defying her father, she wears a dress to an imporant event...this simple act of defiance triggers a tragic series of events.

John Doherty, Executive Chef of the Waldorf-Astoria, will discuss his book, The Waldorf-Astoria Cookbook, which contains an abundance of recipes and cooking tips, collected through the years and offered in the hotel's private suites, ballrooms, restaurants, bars, and via room service. Monday August 18th, 7pm: Orchid Lecture with Connie Ballado
Connie Ballado has over 25 years of experience and research in the care of orchid culture. Connie has participated in judging events such as Japan Grand Prix and the World Orchid Conference in Malaysia. Connie is owner of Ballado Orchids. Up Coming Bus Trips: Wednesday Sept. 17th - New York Botanical Garden & Moore in America Sculpture Show
The Farmington Library has planned a bus trip to the to see "Moore in America" a landmark exhibit of Henry Moore's sculpture. Bus departs library parking lot at 8:15 am and returns by 6 pm. The cost of the trip is $55. Registration deadline is Aug. 22nd. To register call: (860) 673-6791
One Book Program: Waiting for Snow in Havana by
Come pick up your copy of Waiting for Snow in Havana, the book selected for the 2008 Farmington Valley One Book program. The library will host a book discussion on September 16th at 7pm. Stay tuned for more details about author visits.
Art Exhibits During the Month of August:Lobby: An photographic exhibit of Taiwan sponsored by the Taiwan Cultural office in New York City. Look for the Taiwanese hand puppets on display in the children's area display case.
Community Room: An exhibit by the photo imaging class at the Senior Center. An art reception is scheduled for August 7th.

Tuesday August 12th, 7pm: Village Vibrations Concert
Concert #4 in the Summer Concert Series "Village Vibrations" held at the Barney Branch, featuring "Triple Play". Take a trip down memory lane! Enjoy the hits of days gone by, as well as some present day favorites, in a musical review of tunes from 1940 - 2008. Bring a lawn chair and picnic.
