Tuesday April 1st, 7pm: "Baseball Legends Book Discussion"

The group will discuss the book "Joe DiMaggio: A Heroe's Life" by Richard Ben Cramer. The discussion will be led by Farmington resident Richard McAuliffe, a former Major League Baseball player for the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox. Register for this event by calling: (860) 673-6791

Tuesday April 1st, 7pm: "Healthy Heart" with Dr. Goodman, ND

BOOK SALE !!!! April 3rd, 4th & 5th

The Used Book Sale is the biggest library fundraising event of the year! It is also a great place to find great deals on books. Book Sale dates and times are as follows:

  • Thursday, April 3rd - "First Choice Night 6-9pm ($4 Admission this night only)
  • Friday, April 4th - 9am - 8pm
  • Saturday, April 5th - 9am - 2pm
  • Satuday April 5th - 3pm - 5pm ($5 per grocery bag closing sale)

Wednesday April 9th, 7pm "Chefs and Books": Southern Cooking

Featuring The Lee Brothers "Southern Cookbook". In 1994, the Lee Brothers launched a business called "Boiled Peanuts Catalogue" selling boiled peanuts, fig preserve, watermelon rind, and other southern foods. The buisness gained international success, and Matt & Ted Lee went on to write about food, wine and travel for The New York Times, Martha Stewart Living, and Food and Wine. The Lee Brothers will talk, sign their books, and serve tasty treats based on recipes from their "Southern Cookbook". The Chefs and Books series is sponsored by Metro Bis Restaurant. Thursday April 10th, 2pm: Afternoon at the Bijou, Vintage Hollywood Film Series: Featuring "I Could Go On Singing" with Judy Garland

Judy Garland's last movie, I Could Go on Singing, will be the feature presentation for April's "Afternoon at the Bijou" series. The 1963 movie, filmed in London, also stars Dick Bogarde and tells the dramatic story of a singer who must choose between her stage career and her son. Tuesday April 22nd, 7pm: "Strong Bones Naturally" with Dr. Goodman, ND

This program- an informative guide to a healthy lifestyle- will be presented by Dr. Jonathan E. Goodman of Bristol, CT. Dr. Goodman is Director of Solutions for Better Health, Bristol, CT and is associated with the University of Bridgeport CNM and Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center/Integrative Medicine Center. Wednesday April 23rd, 7pm: "The Colors of Feng Shui" with Ned Farrell

Feng Shui is an age-old tradition of helping you achieve whatever it is you wish to accomplish, through deciphering the proper and best use of your space. Color is one of the easiest ways to shift the energy in your space with Feng Shui, because each color is an expression of one of the five Feng Shui elements. Wednesday April 23rd, 7pm: Australian Travelogue

In April, the Farmington Library celebrates the country of Australia (with several events/childrens programing/exhibits about the land down under.) Monday April 28th, 2pm and 7pm: Australian Film Festival

Exciting showing of a new independent, award winning film, "10 Canoes" This film provides a rare glimpse into the indigenous Aboriginal Australian culture, while it offers drama, humor, and striking cinematograpy portraying Australia's beautiful Northern Territory. Up Coming Bus Trips: Tuesday May 20th

The Farmington Library has planned a bus trip to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, to attend the groundbreaking exhibition "El Greco to Velazquez: Art During the Reign of Philip III". The bus trip is scheduled for Tuesday May 20th. The cost of the trip is $55. Registrations/Reservations for the trip are required by May 5th. Register for the trip by calling: (860) 673-6791

Art Exhibits During the Month of April:

Community Room: This exhibit features the work of Farmington K-12 art students. A reception will be held April 8th from 5-8pm

Hallway: "Momentum Images of Dance" Sponsored by Ethel Walker School with the Hartford Ballet

Australian Treasures - Barney Library Art Exhibit - April 1st - 30th:

Sydney, Australia native Cee Jay Robinson displays her collection of Australian treasures in the Barney Library. Exhibit runs April 1st through April 30th. All are Welcome. Call (860) 677-6866 for more info.

Tuesday April 8th, 1:15pm: "Wonders of the Land Down Under"
